1 hour-long webinar on June 13th

5 PM CET / 11 AM EST / 10 AM CT

In March this year, SWISS and Lufthansa Group, signed with Climeworks a long-term carbon removal agreement. As the aviation industry is transitioning towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 to support the goals of the Paris Agreement, reaching this target will require a multifaceted approach. High-quality carbon removal, used in addition to deep and rapid in-sector emission reductions, will play a crucial role in compensating for unavoidable or historical emissions.

Join us for an insightful webinar to discuss the role of carbon removal in the aviation decarbonization journey with Melanie Heiniger from SWISS, Hemant Mistry from IATA (International Air Transport Association) and Cyril Brunner from ETH (Federal Institute of Technology Zurich).
The webinar will be moderated by Laurent Müller, Climeworks Director Strategic Partnerships Management.

Key questions to be explored:

  • What are the climate impacts of aviation today and the pathways toward climate-neutral aviation
  • How is IATA developing decarbonization roadmaps and milestones to reach net-zero by 2050?
  • What is the potential of different decarbonization options, including SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)?
  • What is the value for airlines to invest now in Direct Air Capture and high-quality CDR? When should companies get started on their carbon removal strategy and how to start? The example of SWISS.
  • How can each stakeholder from companies to government and end-consumers, contribute to those climate commitments?

Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and explore actionable strategies to accelerate your transition toward a net zero future. Reserve your spot now!

Cyril Brunner
Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science

Cyril Brunner is a climate scientist at ETH Zurich. He is working on pathways towards a climate-neutral society, with a focus on the role of carbon dioxide removal.

He studied Mechanical Engineering and received a Ph.D. in climate sciences and is now the scientific project leader of the project SPEED2ZERO to enable a sustainable transformation in Switzerland. In addition, Cyril is involved in research on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)

In his last project, he investigated the potential of Carbon Dioxide Removal to support the political and social debate about Switzerland's net zero target with scientifically founded statements and quantitative estimates, to be used, for example, for climate strategies.

As a lecturer, he is enthusiastically involved in teaching at ETH Zurich and in science communication, e.g. with talks on climate action for companies, associations, political parties, the administration, or schools, with blog and newspaper articles, or as a scientific advisor, for example, for the Glacier Initiative.
